WISCONSIN MARRIAGE LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
Any person 18 years of age may marry. If a person is between the age of 16 and 18 , a license may be issued with a written consent of the persons parents, legal guardian or custodian. Consent forms are available from any County Clerk in Wisconsin.
Persons closer than a second cousin in relationship may not marry unless the female is 55 years of age, or either party is permanently sterile.
Divorced persons may not remarry until 6 months after the divorce judgment.
APPLICATION FOR MARRIAGE
Application must be made in the county where either party has resided for at least 30 days. If both parties are residents of other states, the application must be made in the county where the ceremony is to be held. Lakeside Wedding Chapel is located in Dunn County the County Clerks office is located at 800 Wilson Avenue Menomonie, Wisconsin 54751.
Application must be made at least five days before the wedding, excluding the day of application. The license is good for 30 days from issuance date. The waiting period may be waived for an additional fee.
FEES
Fees may vary from county to county. The license fees for Dunn County are $70.00 for the license and $10.00 for the waiver of the five-day waiting period. Fees are subject to change.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED
Applicants must present a certified copy of their birth certificates. Certified copies may be obtained from the Register of Deeds in the county of birth or the State Registrar in the state of birth. Hospital certificates and photocopies are not acceptable.
If there have been pervious marriages, a copy of a legal annulment, death certificate, or judgment of divorce from the last previous marriage must be presented. The divorce judgment must be signed by a judge or stamped by the court. Each party is required to present his or her social security number, satisfactory proof of identification and residence.
The marriage license will be typed when you come in to apply, this will take approximately 20 minutes. Therefore, marriage licenses are not issued later than 4:00 p.m.
CEREMONY
At least 2 witnesses 18 years of age or over are required.
ALL ENTRIES ON THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE MUST BE IN BLACK INK. Those not completed and signed in black ink will not be accepted for registration.
AFTER THE CEREMONY
All marriage certificates are to be filed with the Register of Deeds in the county of the marriage within 3 days after the ceremony. Penalty for failure to do so is a $10,000 fine, 9 months imprisonment, or both.
